In 1988, Ken became interested in publishing personalized books
and was a distributor for Special Day Books. The book, “And
it was a very Special Day”, was inspired by the births of
Karen and Ken’s two children, Brad and Maggie. Drawing on
their own experiences and anecdotal stories of friends and relatives,
Ken created the storyline. Karen added her special touches as she
edited the text. The Illustrator: Christine Moeckle
Chris was born in Linz, Austria, immigrated to the United States
on a troop carrier and was processed through Ellis Island. She
began her art career drawing on paper bags, and has discovered
her joy illustrating books for children. Learning has always
been Chris’ passion. New techniques and new media fascinate
her. Taking media such as color pencil or marker and making them
perform in ways for which they were never designed, Chris can
make a color pencil piece look as though it was done in oil or
make a marker look like watercolor. She is equally comfortable
displaying her artistic talents working in stained glass, basketry,
pop-up books, air brush paintings, and cell animation the old
fashioned way. Photography is a recent discovered joy.
Chris’ husband is her biggest fan and indulges her passion
for art. She also credits her Mother who provides a constant cheering
section.
